Listed below are highlights from some of the Community Outreach Education Events that took place during 2001.

Sacramento Sheriff's detectives coordinated and ran the joint Techno-Fraud 2001 Conference put on by the North West Fraud Investigators Association, the Nevada Financial Crimes Investigators Association, and the California Financial Crimes Investigators Association.  The conference was held from May 30, 2001 to June 1, 2001 in South Lake Tahoe.

The Hi-Tech Crimes Division/Identity Theft unit was represented at the KCRA Call 3 and C.A.U.S.E. Foundation "Schemes, Scams and Rip-Offs" public education event.  Members of the greater Sacramento community were invited to speak to a variety of different agencies at this event.  The Identity Theft unit was invited to provide information specific to identity theft issues and prevention.

A presentation on Identity Theft was given to a group of SMUD employees during their safety meeting.  The purpose of the presentation was to improve awareness of identity theft for the employees personally, as well as professionally.

The Task Force presented a block of Identity Theft/Financial Crimes training at the Volunteers in Partnership with the Sheriff (VIPS) academy.  This training was to assist the volunteers in understanding identity theft so they can better serve the community.

A presentation on identity theft was given to the local Credit Union Association.  Much like the above SMUD presentation, this was to improve awareness of identity theft issues both personally and professionally.

The Task Force gave a one-hour presentation on fraud prevention to the Rancho Cordova Hotel/Motel managers association.  There were ten participants.

A two-hour instructional presentation on identity theft and related fraud was given to the sheriff's East Station volunteers.  There were 40 participants.

The Task Force gave a two-hour presentation on identity theft and related crimes to the Alpha Phi Sigma National Criminal Justice Academic Honor Society at California State University, Sacramento.
