History of the Task Force

The Task Force concept was first proposed in May 1995.  At that time, a collaborative partnership was formed between local government and the computer industry.  This partnership between law enforcement and private business provided for streamlined communication and essential resources that support the Task Force's ability to conduct thorough, successful investigations and prosecutions.  These founding agencies consisted of:

  • Intel

  • Hewlett Packard

  • Apple

  • Packard Bell

  • NEC

  • Airtouch

  • AT&T

  • Sacramento Sheriff's Department

  • Sacramento Police Department

  • Roseville Police Department

  • Folsom Police Department

  • California Highway Patrol

  • Placer Sheriff's Office

  • Placer County District Attorney

  • Sacramento District Attorney

The Task Force was officially established on December 12, 1995.  Within the first few months of operation, Yolo County District Attorney and the California Department of Justice joined the list of allied Task Force members.  With Sacramento Sheriff's Department as the lead agency, the Task Force began operating under a Memorandum of Understanding and an Operating Agreement with various law enforcement agencies throughout the state.

The Task Force has increased in size to include more than 30 agencies and over 66 employees.  The organization of the Task Force can be seen in the Hi-Tech Crimes Organizational Chart and the Identity Theft Organizational Chart.  The Organizational Charts are PDF documents.  Adobe Acrobat Reader is needed to view the file and can be download for free at Adobe's website.
